Grand Moff Tarkin

Profile

Wilhuff Tarkin is the Grand Moff in charge of the Outer Rim sectors and the political face of the Empire next to Palpatine and Darth Vader.

Role inside the Empire

• pushes the Death Star program forward
• replaces the imperial senate as a control tool with the regional Moffs
• turns the principle “fear as order” into actual policy

Appearances

Tarkin shapes A New Hope and Rogue One. The Clone Wars and Rebels show his harshness around Jedi trials and imperial academies.

Why he matters

Tarkin proves that the Empire works as a fear machine even without the Sith. Understanding him is the fastest way to understand the original-trilogy conflict between rebellion and imperial bureaucracy.
