Definition

Protocol 66, originally Order 66, is a secret command embedded in the clone army’s structure. When activated, every Jedi instantly counts as a traitor and must be eliminated.

Technical basis

Clones carry an inhibitor chip that, on activation, redirects loyalty to Palpatine. Personal bonds with Jedi generals are overridden in seconds.

Political impact

Order 66 is not just a massacre but a coup in one night. With the Jedi gone, the Republic’s last independent Force institution disappears.

Fan relevance

Protocol 66 is the saga’s hinge: before this command there is a Republic, after it an Empire. Once you understand it, you start to see why every later hope is paid for so expensively.
