Yavin 4

Overview

Yavin 4 is a dense jungle moon orbiting the gas giant Yavin Prime. During the Galactic Civil War, it hosts the Rebel Alliance’s main base, housed inside ancient Massassi temples that date back to early Sith wars.

Massassi temples

The Massassi temples on Yavin 4 were built thousands of years ago by a Sith Lord who enslaved the native Massassi population. The Rebellion repurposes the massive stone pyramids as command, hangar and briefing structures.

Battle of Yavin

Rebel pilots launch the attack on the first Death Star from Yavin 4. Luke’s precise shot during the trench run destroys the battle station, turning Yavin 4 into the birthplace of A New Hope.

Lore links

Yavin 4 appears across novels, games and The Force Awakens as a historical and lore anchor. Luke’s later Jedi academy stands on Yavin 4 in multiple story strands, closing lore circles from Sith history through Rebellion to a new Jedi order.

Significance

Yavin 4 connects ancient Sith history with Rebellion hope and the new Jedi legacy. That makes the moon one of the most central lore locations of the entire Skywalker saga.
