The Force is an omnipresent energy field that binds every living being in the galaxy. Jedi, Sith and rare gifted individuals tap it for abilities beyond a normal lifespan.

Light and dark

The Force can be used in two ways:

• Light side — discipline, compassion, restraint
• Dark side — anger, fear, desire

The Sith chose the dark side for power. The Jedi taught that it is faster but corrupts the user.

Midi-chlorians

Microscopic life forms that allow Force-sensitive beings to feel and channel the Force. Anakin Skywalker had the highest known count — about 20,000 per cell.

Abilities

Force users can:

• Sense presence and intent
• Use telepathy and dream-share
• Move objects through telekinesis
• See possible futures in visions
• Make great leaps and parry blades

Cultural footprint

“May the Force be with you” became the unofficial motto of a global fandom. The idea of an unseen current that links every life is deeply spiritual and universal.
