Star Destroyer

Profile

Star Destroyers are the wedge-shaped image of Imperial power. They carry troops, TIE squadrons, command structures and the message that the Empire is physically above a planet.

Function

One Star Destroyer can enforce blockades, cover landings, launch fighters and intimidate local systems. That makes it feel like a mobile occupation government.

Iconic scene

The opening of A New Hope shows a Star Destroyer chasing the Tantive IV. Without exposition, the scale of power and desperation is clear.

Why it matters

Star Destroyers make power relationships visible. They are less a hero ship than a threat: a political statement shaped like steel.
