Order 65

Definition

Order 65 is a Republic contingency order theoretically aimed at a chancellor who has become a threat to the Republic.

Context

The order is most useful as a contrast to Order 66. On paper, the Republic has safeguards against abuse of power. In practice, Palpatine controls the military, politics and information environment so completely that Order 66 becomes the decisive weapon.

Why it matters

Order 65 shows how much the Republic trusts formal rules while Sidious has already taken power through informal control.
