The Father (Mortis)
Reading time: 5 min
Definition
The Father of Mortis is the central figure in the Mortis family from The Clone Wars. He holds the balance between his Daughter, who embodies the light side, and his Son, who embodies the dark side.
Anakin’s test
On Mortis, the Father tests Anakin Skywalker as a possible successor — the Chosen One who could hold balance. Anakin also receives a vision of his future as Darth Vader.
Symbolism
- Father – balance
- Daughter – light side
- Son – dark side
When the Father dies, the balance collapses. When the Daughter or Son dies, the cosmic equation shifts toward the other side.
Why it matters
The Mortis arc provides mythic weight for the Chosen One prophecy and shows why Anakin’s fall in Episode III feels both personal and cosmic.
