The Chosen One

Definition

The Chosen One is the Jedi prophecy about a person who will restore balance to the Force. Qui-Gon Jinn believes Anakin Skywalker is that person.

Context

The prophecy is deliberately ambiguous. Anakin destroys the Jedi Order as Darth Vader, but later saves Luke and kills Palpatine over Endor. Balance arrives through tragedy, guilt and choice rather than a clean heroic arc.

Why it matters

The term explains why Anakin is more than a powerful warrior to the Jedi, the Sith and the audience. He is the centre of the Skywalker saga.
