Jedi Code
Definition
The Jedi Code is the ethical foundation of the Jedi Order. Five short lines describe how Jedi should treat emotions, knowledge and the Force.
Wording (canon version)
There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the Force.
Wording varies between sources but the spirit is the same: master your impulses, never suppress them.
Why the rule exists
The Code demands distance from possessive attachment. Love is allowed, ownership is not. Anakin Skywalker breaks here: trying to save Padmé from death pushes him into Palpatine’s hands.
Contrast with the Sith Code
The Sith Code is a deliberate inversion — passion, strength, power, freedom. Side-by-side breakdown in the Jedi vs Sith guide.
Fan relevance
The Code explains why Yoda warns Anakin, why Luke refuses to train Rey at first, and why the High Republic Jedi already strain under their own rules. Once you understand it, the films read differently.
