Jedi ranks explained

Definition

The Jedi Order has clear levels: youngling, Padawan, Jedi Knight, Jedi Master and members of the High Council.

Climbing the ranks

Younglings train in classes, Padawans learn under a Master, Knights have passed their trials, Masters carry teaching responsibility, and Council seats are political trust roles.

Why it matters

The levels explain why Anakin’s early seat on the Council without Master rank creates friction — a core conflict point before Episode III.
