Great Mothers

Definition

The Great Mothers are three Nightsister witches on Peridea who stand at Thrawn’s side in Ahsoka. They use ichor magic, raising of the dead and rituals to support his return plan.

Importance

The Great Mothers bring Dathomir magic back into the mainstream of Star Wars shows. Their presence explains why Thrawn’s troops feel so adaptive and gives Baylan Skoll’s search for the Force a new layer.

Why it matters

The Great Mothers connect Clone Wars, Rebels and Ahsoka in one spot: dark power outside the Sith, carried by women older than the Empire.
