Death Star Superlaser

Definition

The Death Star superlaser is the planet-killing main weapon of the Imperial battle station. It channels energy into a beam that destroys Alderaan and makes the Empire’s threat visible.

Meaning

The superlaser is not a normal weapon; it is politics through fear. Tarkin wants to intimidate systems permanently through one overwhelming example.

Why it matters

Without the superlaser, the Death Star would be a huge ship. With it, the station becomes a symbol of Imperial overreach and the moral trigger for rebellion.
