C-3PO

Definition

C-3PO is a protocol droid built by Anakin Skywalker. He is fluent in millions of forms of communication and accompanies almost the entire Skywalker saga.

Function

C-3PO translates languages, rituals and social codes. His value is not combat but preventing misunderstandings — or making them funnier through panic.

Relationship with R2-D2

Together with R2-D2 he forms the classic droid duo: 3PO says too much, R2 says too little and both repeatedly save the galaxy.

Fan relevance

C-3PO reminds us that Star Wars is also fairy-tale comedy. Between Empire, Sith and war the saga needs characters who are afraid and keep walking anyway.
