The Battle of Naboo in 32 BBY ends the Trade Federation invasion and turns Naboo senator Palpatine into Supreme Chancellor. It is the first visible move in the Sith plot that later becomes the Clone Wars and Order 66.

What happens

• Queen Amidala returns to Naboo and allies with the Gungans.
• The Gungan army holds the droid army in open-field battle.
• Anakin Skywalker destroys the Trade Federation control ship from space.
• Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi fight Darth Maul; Qui-Gon dies, Maul appears defeated.

Why it matters

The battle proves that the Sith have returned after centuries of silence. It triggers the political crisis that pushes the Senate toward war, starts Anakin’s Jedi training and gives Palpatine the office he needs.
