Wookiees

Profile

The Wookiees are highly intelligent giants from the forest world of Kashyyyk. They speak Shyriiwook, live in stilt cities and are far more technically skilled than their look suggests.

Role in the saga

• Clone Wars: General Yoda fights on Kashyyyk alongside Chief Tarfful and Chewbacca.
• Original trilogy: Chewbacca is pilot, mechanic and moral anchor of the Falcon crew.
• Empire: After Order 66 the Empire enslaves Wookiees for beskar and trihexalon mining.

Culture

• Life debt: an honor-based loyalty bond (Han Solo owes Chewbacca his).
• Clan families live in tree-tower compounds; Life Day is the central holiday.
• “Let the Wookiee win” comes from the dejarik match aboard the Millennium Falcon.

Why they matter

Wookiees are the symbol of loyal allies beyond the human main cast — and a key reason the Rebellion reads as more than a Skywalker family drama.
