Original Trilogy

Definition

The Original Trilogy covers the first three Star Wars films (1977–1983):

• Episode IV — A New Hope (1977)
• Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
• Episode VI — Return of the Jedi (1983)

Conflict

The Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire. The main spine: Luke Skywalker’s journey from desert farm boy to Jedi Knight.

Impact

The start of Star Wars as a cultural phenomenon. Many still rank Episode V as the best Star Wars film of all time — “I am your father” is one of cinema’s most iconic lines.

Why it matters

If you do not enter Star Wars through the Original Trilogy you miss the core register of the saga: family, hope, and rebellion against seemingly unstoppable power.
