Nerf Herder

Definition

Nerf herder is an insult Leia Organa throws at Han Solo. Literally it means someone who herds nerfs; in tone, it is a rough jab at Han’s swagger.

Meaning

The term shows how Star Wars uses everyday galaxy words without stopping to explain them. One phrase suggests culture, humor and character dynamics.

Why it matters

Nerf herder is a perfect example of Star Wars dialogue: strange enough for worldbuilding, clear enough for the joke and tightly tied to Leia and Han.
