Kamino

Reading time: 5 min

Overview

Kamino is a distant ocean world beyond the Outer Rim. Its capital Tipoca City rises out of the sea on huge stilts. The Kaminoans grow the Grand Army of the Republic here, making Kamino the hidden engine of Order 66.

Environment

Endless storms, towering waves and ocean-bound platforms shape Kamino. The Kaminoans are a tall, reserved species that leads the galaxy in cloning technology and works with extreme precision when paid well.

The clone army

Kamino grows the Grand Army of the Republic from Jango Fett’s genetic template. The inhibitor chip program is a core part of this work and one of Palpatine’s most important hidden weapons.

Conflicts

Kamino appears in The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch and many other stories as a stage for power, betrayal and moral grey zones. After Order 66, the Empire uses Kamino for a time before dismantling its cloning capacity in an escalating chain of events.

Significance

Kamino proves that the Republic only enters the war because a hidden army is ready in advance. That this army is simultaneously the Jedi’s death sentence makes Kamino the cold heart of prequel tragedy.
