Jawas

Profile

Jawas are small robed desert peoples from Tatooine. They live inside massive armored sandcrawlers and trade whatever they can salvage from the dunes.

Role in the myth

• Episode IV: Jawas sell R2-D2 and C-3PO to Owen Lars, kicking off Luke’s journey.
• The Mandalorian: They trade beskar parts and Razor Crest hardware for a mudhorn egg with Din Djarin.
• The Book of Boba Fett: They sell components Boba needs to rebuild his ship.

Culture

Jawas speak a fast, high-pitched dialect; their eyes glow yellow beneath their hoods. Clans hold annual gatherings and trade markets at the dune line.

Why they matter

Jawas are the economic underground of the desert worlds. Without them there is no Skywalker myth — they deliver the droids that set everything in motion.
