Definition

The First Order is the Empire’s successor organisation, built up over decades in the Unknown Regions beyond the galaxy.

Rise

After the Battle of Jakku (5 ABY), Imperial remnants vanish into the Unknown Regions, abduct children for a new stormtrooper programme, and over 30 years assemble a paramilitary army.

Iconography

• Starkiller Base (Episode VII) — an entire planet weaponised
• Resurgent-class Star Destroyers — larger than any Imperial ship
• TIE Silencer and TIE/fo — successor lines to the classic TIE Fighter

Why it matters

The First Order is Star Wars’s answer to real post-war fascist movements: the Empire never died, it reorganised and waited for the Republic to grow complacent.
