Beskar

Profile

Beskar is the nearly indestructible metal alloy of the Mandalorians and the most important material in their culture. A beskar suit will not melt under blaster fire and withstands most lightsaber strikes.

Origin

Beskar is mined on Mandalore and its moon Concordia. The secrets of working it belong to the smiths, whose knowledge has been passed down for generations (see The Armorer in The Mandalorian).

The Great Purge

The Empire carried out the Great Purge of Mandalore, bombing the Mandalorian forges into ruin. Beskar was plundered, often melted into coins that the Empire handed out to its officers.

Mandalorian culture

Beskar is more than material. It is a spiritual bond to family, clan and creed: “This is the Way”. Armor is traditionally forged by a clan relative and passed down.

Din Djarin and the beskar spear

Over the course of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin collects beskar coins from Imperial stockpiles, rebuilds his armor and eventually acquires a rare beskar spear strong enough to block the Darksaber.

Why it matters

Beskar is the reason Mandalore is repeatedly plundered and repeatedly rises again. Whoever holds beskar holds both history and future.
