Battle of Jakku

Profile

The Battle of Jakku (5 ABY) is the last major battle of the Galactic Civil War. Imperial remnants under Gallius Rax and Rae Sloane face the New Republic on an uninhabited desert world.

Context

After Endor the Empire fractures. An Imperial plan, Operation Cinder, prefers to burn loyal worlds rather than let the New Republic take them. Jakku is the final test of that doctrine.

Course of battle

Star Destroyers and Super Star Destroyers crash into the sea of sand. Wedge Antilles and Rebel pilots break the Imperial lines. On the ground stormtroopers and special units dig into old research bunkers.

Aftermath

• The Empire officially surrenders through the Galactic Concordance.
• Decades later the wrecks become Reys home as a scavenger.
• Loyalists reorganize in secret — the foundation of the First Order.

Why it matters

Jakku bridges the OT, The Mandalorian and the sequel trilogy. Anyone who wants to understand the Aftermath era starts here.
