Reading time: 4 min

Overview

The X-Wing is the iconic fighter spacecraft of the Rebel Alliance and the chosen vessel of Luke Skywalker. Its distinctive four-wing design has made it one of the most recognizable ships in the galaxy.

Technical Specifications

  • Length: 12.5 meters
  • Max Speed: 105 MGLT
  • Hyperdrive: Class IV (with backup)
  • Armament: 4 T-65B proton torpedo launchers, 4 laser cannons

Design

The X-Wing’s four wings, nicknamed “k wings”, can fold for landing and storage. In attack position, they spread into an X-shape, giving the ship its name. The ship was designed by Incom Corporation as a multi-role fighter.

Notable Moments

The X-Wing achieved legendary status when Luke Skywalker used one to destroy the first Death Star. Guided by the Force, Luke fired proton torpedoes into the exhaust port that led to the reactor core.

Variants

  • T-65: Original Rebel version
  • T-65B: Improved version with better targeting
  • T-70: First Order era, used by Resistance
  • T-85: New Republic standard

Cultural Significance

The X-Wing represents the heart of the Rebellion: outgunned but outsmarting the Empire through courage and skill. Luke’s victory in an X-Wing established the ship as a symbol of hope across the galaxy.
