AT-ST

Overview

The AT-ST (“All Terrain Scout Transport”) is the Empire’s two-legged scout walker — faster and more maneuverable than the AT-AT but more lightly armored. Nicknamed the “chicken walker” by Rebel troops.

• Speed: 90 km/h.
• Armament: Twin medium blaster cannon, twin light blasters, concussion grenade launcher.
• Crew: 2 (pilot, gunner).
• Armor: Light plastoid plating.

Battle of Endor

On the forest moon of Endor, many AT-STs were destroyed by the Ewoks with trapdoors, log hammers, and a rope strung between two trees. Chewbacca even commandeered an AT-ST and turned it against Imperial troops.

Variants

• AT-ST/A — Standard model (Endor).
• AT-ST Raider — Modified pirate variant in “The Mandalorian” Season 1.
• AT-MP — Heavier mortar variant.

Cultural Significance

The AT-ST embodies the Empire’s weakness against cunning and courage: an 8-meter steel giant, felled by furry tribal warriors. Its “chicken walker” gait remains one of the funniest and most iconic animations of the original trilogy.
