Profile
Yavin Prime is the red gas giant orbited by the habitable moon Yavin 4 — site of the Rebel base in A New Hope.
Battle of Yavin
The first Death Star must swing around Yavin Prime to acquire firing line on Yavin 4. That manoeuvre gives Luke and Red Squadron the exact window they need for the trench run.
Why it matters
A lucky trick of orbital geography decides the Original Trilogy’s biggest battle. Without Yavin Prime the first Death Star is never destroyed.
