Yavin 4

Overview

Yavin 4 is the fourth moon of the gas giant Yavin — and the site of the saga’s most famous Rebel base, the launch point that destroyed the first Death Star.

Geography

Dense rainforest, tall Massassi temples from an ancient Sith era, wide river systems, constant humid heat. The Rebels used the temples as hangars and command centers.

Battle of Yavin

In year 0 BBY the first Death Star approached Yavin 4 to destroy the base. Luke Skywalker destroyed it with a proton torpedo shot into the exhaust port — the most famous ship-to-moon maneuver in the saga.

Before and After

• Massassi warriors — Thousands of years before the saga, Sith-enslaved Massassi lived here.
• Rogue One — The Alliance gathers on Yavin 4 when Jyn Erso presents the plans.
• After Endor — The base was abandoned; Luke later founded his Jedi temple elsewhere.
