Mandalore
Overview
Mandalore is the homeworld of the Mandalorians — a people whose culture, religion, and identity are inseparable from beskar armor and the Darksaber. Its modern history, from pacifist New Mandalore to Imperial glassing, is one of the richest story fields in canon.
Geography
Mandalore alternates between deserts, crystallized glass plains (caused by the “Great Glassing”), and underground city complexes such as Sundari beneath dome shields. Beskar ore, the hardest metal in the galaxy, is mined in beskar mines.
History
- Mandalorian Wars — For centuries Mandalorians waged wars of conquest before the Jedi pushed them back.
- New Mandalore — Duchess Satine Kryze established a pacifist government; the Death Watch and Darth Maul tore it down.
- Imperial Rule — Under Moff Gideon the Empire carried out the “Night of a Thousand Tears” that turned Mandalore to glass.
- Reclamation — Bo-Katan Kryze and Din Djarin launched the resettlement in “The Mandalorian” Season 3.
Sundari and the Capital
Sundari, the dome-shielded capital, was the symbol of the pacifist era. Today it lies in ruins; the Living Waters beneath the forge complex are all that remains.
Religion and the Darksaber
The Mandalorian code “This is the Way” and the Darksaber — the only black lightsaber crystal in canon — are the spiritual pillars of Mandalore. The bearer of the Darksaber is considered the rightful leader.
