Geonosis

Overview

Geonosis is the arid, termite-mound-dominated planet where the Clone Wars began — and where the Empire later designed the Death Star.

Geography

Red desert floor, vast termite-mound structures, a dense asteroid ring around the planet. The Geonosians live in subterranean, hierarchically organized hive structures.

Start of the Clone Wars

In the Petranaki Arena on Geonosis, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padmé were sentenced to death. Their rescue by Mace Windu’s Jedi and Yoda’s clone troopers launched the First Battle of Geonosis — the official start of the Clone Wars.

Separatist Alliance

In the Geonosis cave system Count Dooku formalized the Separatist Alliance. The Geonosians were the largest droid producers in the galaxy — an industrial hive.

Death Star Shipyards

From Episode III onward, the Geonosians built the first Death Star segments in orbital shipyards. After completion the Empire sterilized the entire Geonosian species — “Operation Geonosis Cleanup.”
