Imperial TIE Fighter
Profile
The Imperial TIE Fighter is probably the most legendary spacecraft of the evil Galactic Empire and has demonstrated the superiority of the Imperial Air Force in countless battles. With Lego Set 75182 from 2018, this iconic design was immortalized in a modern building kit that combines the characteristic twin solar cell wing construction with the fresh aesthetics of the new Lego technology. The 696 pieces of the set result in a model of about 33 centimeters wingspan that impresses both as a toy and as a display piece and includes two minifigures in Imperial pilot look.
Highlights
The set stands out for the authentic recreation of the legendary two-man fighter with its distinctive hexagonal solar cell wings that spread like the wings of a bird of prey. The cockpit offers space for one minifigure and is equipped with a detailed instrument panel that mirrors the original pilot cockpit. The two laser cannons at the bow of the fighter are spring-loaded and allow you to imitate the typical “pew pew” sounds during play, which goes down well especially with younger builders. The landing gear can be folded away and disappears completely into the fuselage, just like in the film, which underscores the attention to detail.
Detailed Information
The TIE Fighter from 2018 uses modern building techniques that were not yet available in older versions of this set and benefits from Lego’s continuous development in the area of space models. The hexagonal wings are achieved through a clever arrangement of standard building blocks that create the characteristic grid pattern without having to resort to expensive special parts. The color scheme in matte black and gray tones corresponds to the Imperial standard paint job and is complemented by red accents on the engine and cockpit RAM elements. The minifigures are equipped with authentic helmet designs that reflect the closed cockpit of the TIE Fighter and also have individual collector value.
Rating
With set 75182, Lego has found an excellent compromise between attention to detail and construction effort that satisfies both beginners and experienced builders. The building instructions are first-class as usual and guide through all 14 construction phases with clear graphics, so that an average adult can complete the model in about two to three hours. Assembly is fun and through the clever mechanics holds some surprises that make the unboxing experience a real pleasure. The price-performance ratio with just under 70 euros for just under 700 pieces is absolutely fair and is in the expected range for Star Wars space sets of this size.
For Collectors
For the display case collection, the TIE Fighter is particularly suitable because with its iconic silhouette it practically enhances any background and as part of a larger Imperial squadron leaves a dramatic impression. The minifigures, especially the pilot with the closed helmet, are coveted collector’s items that are included in this form and quality in only a few other sets. Combined with other spaceships from the classic trilogy, like the Millennium Falcon or the X-Wing, an impressive galaxy map is created that brings the epic battles between Rebel Alliance and Empire to life.
