Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back

Plot

The Rebel Alliance has established a new base on the ice planet Hoth. But their peace is short-lived – the Empire has found them. Darth Vader leads an attack on the base, forcing the Rebels to evacuate.

After the Battle of Hoth, Luke Skywalker splits from the group to seek Jedi Master Yoda, who agrees to train him in the ways of the Force on the swamp planet Dagobah.

Meanwhile, Han Solo, Leia, Chewbacca, and C-3PO travel to Cloud City, a tibanna gas mining facility in the skies of Bespin. There they fall into a trap set by Darth Vader.

The Imperial Attack

The Empire strikes Hoth with overwhelming force. The Rebels are forced to evacuate, leaving behind much of their equipment and personnel.

Yoda’s Training

Luke arrives on Dagobah and meets the diminutive but powerful Jedi Master Yoda. Under his tutelage, Luke begins to understand the Force more deeply.

The Cloud City Trap

Vader lures Han and Leia to Cloud City, where he plans to capture them. The trap succeeds, and Han is frozen in carbonite and delivered to Jabba the Hutt.

The Revelation

In one of cinema’s greatest twists, Vader reveals to Luke that he is his father. This revelation shakes Luke to his core and sets up the final confrontation.

Legacy

Episode V is widely considered the best Star Wars film, known for its darker tone, the father reveal, and the iconic Battle of Hoth.
